Music in Ballinteer
The school choir performs at various events in the school year. No matter what year you are in, the choir is a fantastic place to express yourself through music and to make life-long friends. All students are welcome!
The music classroom is equipped with various instruments such as ukuleles, pianos, drums, and both acoustic/electric guitars. Computer software is provided for students who choose Leaving Cert music technology.
Students can attend ‘The School of Rock’ with Joe Dunne every Wednesday after school for additional guitar lessons.
There is a Music Club on Thursday at lunch time for extra rehearsals.
'BCS Picnic' and the 'BCS Music Showcase' allows students to perform for the whole school, showing what they have learned throughout the year.
Performances throughout the year include our annual Christmas Carol Service, Awards' Ceremonies, Open Evening, The Easter Fair, Graduation Ceremonies, BCS Picnic and The BCS Music Showcase. Students can perform individually on their instrument of choice, as part of a band, or in the school choir.
Drama and Performance in Ballinteer
‘Drama and Performance’ is a year long optional subject in Transition Year. Each year students take part in a production/play where they will compete in a national competition against other schools around the country. The Transition Year musical has been considered by many students to be the highlight of the year.
Being a part of the musical is always a wonderful and memorable experience. Recent productions of the musicals included ‘Grease’ in 2023 and ‘Mamma Mia’ in 2024. Both year groups became finalists of the Briery Gap All Ireland Drama Finals and performed in the Mullingar Art Centre, The Everyman Theatre in Cork and the infamous Cork Opera House. In 2023, the Grease group were awarded the ‘Special Award’ trophy for their scene of Grease Lightnin’.
The Theatre Space is a new room built for students to be able to act and perform on a stage in preparation for lights, camera and action.
In 2025, Drama, Film and Theatre Studies will become a new option subject in our school for the Leaving Cert.
