Parents
The parent's association of Ballinteer Community School has been very
active and involved in school issues since holding its first annual
general meeting in 1998. The association has its own constitution and
is affiliated to the Parent's Association for Community and
Comprehensive schools (PACCS). The AGM is held in September. Part of
the fee for this journal goes to the Parent's Association, which
insures all students in a personal accident insurance scheme. This
scheme is taken out with Brennan insurance and it is underwritten by
Lloyds. It is a 24 hour 365 day policy. Full policy details are
available for inspection at the school. The parent's association is actively involved in school issues. The committee meets once a month and through staff liaison, a constant line of communication with the school is maintained. The association issues a newsletter on a number of occasions throughout the year highlighting its activities. All parents are encouraged to come along to the AGM and any other activities organised by the Parent's Association throughout the year. The Parent's Association welcomes your active support. If you want to contact the Association please enquire at the school office. The year is concluded with a social evening at the end of May where parent's, teachers and friends meet in a relaxed setting. Parent's role Parents play a crucial role in shaping the attitudes, which produce good behaviour in our schools. Parents will be invited to come to the school to discuss their children's progress and behaviour throughout the year. Their active co-operation will be sought at an early stage rather than a last resort. They can be assured of a fair hearing and will be informed of their rights of appeal if their children are facing sanctions. The school considers it of vital importance that contact is maintained throughout the year to ensure mutual understanding at all times. Class will be suspended from time to time so that curriculum review and development can be accommodated. Parents will be notified in advance of any class suspension or extraordinary school closure. |
